Krabi: Night Marketing and Killer Croissants
We spent a night in Krabi en route to Koh Phangan from Railay. It was a great, worthwhile stop — arriving on a Saturday meant we got to explore the Night Market, which led to one of the best meals of the trip so far. Our feast included fresh grilled squid, a face-meltingly spicy raw clam salad, and fresh-fried pad thai, served in a thin omelet for presentation’s sake (the stellar wok skills behind the pad thai are pictured above).
Just as delicious but significantly more surprising was our breakfast the next morning before our bus-ferry-cab-motorboat trek to Haad Tien beach. Right across the street from our hotel was a pocket-sized cafe called May and Mark — in addition to a respectable cappucino, there I found fresh baked croissants, tender, flakey, and delicately buttery. They had excellent miniature palmiers on offer, too, which showed a similarly sure had with pastry. Such a good surprise at the start of a long travel day.
